LAUNCH OF ELECTORAL LEGISLATION REFORM PROCESS
March 21, 2025Suva, Fiji – 21 March 2025 – Thirty newly appointed Justices of the Peace (JPs) were officially sworn in today at High Court 2, Suva, in a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Salesi Temo. This significant occasion marks a step forward in strengthening access to justice for all Fijians.
During his address, Chief Justice Temo welcomed the new Justices of the Peace to the Judiciary and underscored the vital role they play within the judicial system. He highlighted the importance of their signatures, which not only certify legal documents but also authorize search warrants and summons to witness documents. Furthermore, he stressed the fundamental responsibility of JPs to provide essential services to the people of Fiji with integrity and dedication.
The newly sworn-in Justices of the Peace come from diverse backgrounds, including retired leaders from villages and rural communities, academics, and civil servants. Their commitment to public service will enhance accessibility to JP services across the country, ensuring that more Fijians can benefit from their duties.
The Ministry of Justice remains committed to expanding the availability of Justice of the Peace services throughout Fiji. In line with this effort, another set of 30 Justices of the Peace is scheduled to be sworn in on 1st April 2025.
