ELECTORAL REVIEW COMMISSIONERS ORIENTED ON DEMOCRATIC REFORM
March 21, 2025The Ministry for Justice of Fiji and the Ministry for Justice and Legal Affairs of Solomon Islands have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today, marking a significant step towards strengthening legal cooperation and capacity-building between the two nations.
The signing ceremony, held at Suvavou House, was attended by Fiji’s Minister for Justice, Hon. Siromi Turaga and Hon. Clezy Rore, Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs of the Solomon Islands, and other senior government officials, members of the judiciary, and representatives from both countries’ legal sectors were also present.
The MOU establishes a Twinning Program aimed at enhancing collaboration in key areas, including legal aid administration, policy development, research, legal practice, and legislative drafting. Under this initiative, legal professionals from the Solomon Islands will have the opportunity to engage in training and mentorship programs with their counterparts in Fiji, and vice versa.
The initiative has been endorsed by the Fijian Cabinet, reaffirming the Fijian Government’s commitment to regional justice sector reform and cooperation. The partnership is further supported by the Australian Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice Program, which will cover the costs associated with travel, accommodation, and training.
The signing of this agreement marks the beginning of a stronger legal partnership, one that will contribute to the advancement of justice, governance, and the rule of law in the Pacific region
