  • Informants (as defined by the BDM Act 1945) valid photo ID
  • Stamped medical certificate cause of death – original from the hospital
  • Informant to provide information on the burial/cremation details.

(please ensure that the Medical certificate of death is stamped by the hospital)

Foreigner death in Fiji

  • Informants valid photo ID
  • Stamped medical certificate cause of death – original
  • Informant to provide information on the burial/cremation details.
  • Foreigner’s valid photo ID/Passport bio data/marriage certificate/birth certificate.

(please ensure that the Medical certificate of death is stamped by the hospital)

Fijian national declared dead Overseas (War Service)

  • Informant valid photo ID
  • Court order proving the death in any place out of Fiji or
  • Death certificate under the hand of a member of the naval or military forces or
  • Medical certificate cause of death from next of kin

Fijian national declared dead Overseas

*To update birth certificate status of death overseas.

* Death will be registered if unable to find the missing person after 7 years.

*To register death in natural disasters where the body cannot be found

  • Statutory declaration from informant is mandatory if person is deceased outside hospitals or medical center.
  • Confirmatory letter from MOH
  • VKB certificate (if iTaukei)
  • Statutory declaration from the village head/witness
  • Signed Police report

*This process will enable BDM office to update old deaths records into the system records

*This process will enable BDM office to add issues to pre-existing death registration.

  • 2 credible persons’;
    • 1 person – Legal spouse or issues from legal spouse
    • 1 person – De Facto or issues from De Facto

*This process will enable BDM office to proceed with death registration in the absence of Legal spouse and issues from legal spouse.
